Sharing My Favorite Movie With My Kids

Growing up, I had several favorite movies that corresponded with the phase I was in. Most of them involved animals. 101 Dalmatians, The Lion King, The Aristocats. Later on in life, I loved Princess Diaries. There was one movie in my teens that stuck out, big time. George of the Jungle.

My husband and I have been on a movie kick after we finished our most recent series, The Nanny, Young Sheldon, and The Chosen. We pulled open the doors to our dusty DVD cabinet to find many movies that we didn't have on digital and hadn't seen in a long while.

His latest pick, Tarzan, bored me a little bit to be honest, but it gave me the inspiration to look for George of the Jungle. It turned out that we didn't have it, so we bought the digital copy and watched it together.

Then when the kids were up, he turned it on for them.

My 13yo son thought it was great. He really enjoyed the narrator, he cracked teen-type smiles that I don't get to see all that often.

My 10yo daughter thought I was crazy for liking it, even when I tried to point out how I thought Brendon Frasier was cute when I was about her age. She apparently didn't.

My 8yo son, who is by far into physical comedy, laughed with his whole heart

My 5yo son giggled, especially when George crashed into trees

My 2yo son was entranced. I'm sure he was smiling that 8-toothed smile, but I couldn't see it, he didn't turn away from the TV

All of that gave me some quiet time to nurse Danielle.

I enjoyed them enjoying it, and while it might not be a classic, it'll definitely be one that is on in our family.

Blessings and belly laughs,

Kristian

Life in our house is loud, messy and full of literally everything. Love, noise, laundry, laughter, and definitely could use a bit more grace. I'm happily married to my best friend, grounded in my Catholic faith, and fueled by five to six hours of sleep per night and adrenaline.

I try to find joy in the everyday — even when it's wild, because without the little bit of joy, this life would be unbearable. This space is for the moms in the middle of it all: the ones juggling family, faith, work, and wonder. The ones that need someone else's messy life to make their own seem better or somewhat normal. You're not alone, and you're doing better than you think.

Welcome to Six Sweet Smiles — where we celebrate the mess, the miracles, and everything in between.
