The One Clean Corner

Sometimes, in a house with eight people, six kids, and a whirlwind of daily chaos, you have to adjust your expectations. You can’t have a spotless home all the time—it’s just not realistic. But what you can have is one small corner of peace. One tiny slice of calm that belongs to you. Maybe.

In my house, that corner is usually… well, wherever I can carve out 5 minutes without someone dropping a backpack or a Lego on it. Sometimes it’s a cleared countertop in the kitchen. Sometimes it’s my bedside table, finally free of mail, cups, and stray toys. And occasionally—very rarely—it’s my desk where I can actually sit and write, and as long as I don't turn around and look at the rest of the room - feel like I've accomplished something.

Having just one clean corner does wonders for your sanity. It reminds you that order is possible, even if only in a small space. It’s a mini victory in a sea of chaos, a place where you can breathe, regroup, and even feel a little spark of joy amidst the mess.

Of course, the kids often forget that my corner exists, and it may only last a few hours before someone inevitably drops a crayon or a sock. But that’s okay. That corner is mine, even if it’s fleeting. And sometimes, that’s enough to keep me going until the next “cleaning window” opens.

Quick Clean Tip: Pick one small space that is just for you and keep it clutter-free. It can be a shelf, a drawer, a countertop, or even a chair. Make it your mini sanctuary, and let everyone know—this is off-limits. Even five minutes of calm in a messy house can recharge your energy and keep your sanity intact. Good Luck!
