Storage is Not the Problem
Let’s talk about storage. People love to say, “You just need more bins!” or “Get clever with shelves!” And yes, storage can help… a little. But here’s the truth: in a house with eight people, storage is never the real problem.
I have shelves, bins, baskets, drawers, and closets that could make any organization blogger swoon. But no matter how many containers I buy, how neatly I label them, or how perfectly I fold everything, the chaos keeps coming. Toys are dumped in bins, then dumped out again in five minutes. Papers are stacked, then used as launching pads for Legos. And don’t even get me started on the random items that show up in places I didn’t even know existed: half a bag of chips behind the couch, a crayon in the pantry, or an art project shoved in the dishwasher.
At some point, I realized: it’s not a lack of storage. It’s the sheer volume of stuff. Eight people generate an impossible amount of things, and while I can control my own little corner, I can’t control everything that walks through the door—or gets carried in by my kids, dog, or Amazon deliveries.
So storage helps, but it’s not magic. The only way to make a real difference is a combination of boundaries, daily maintenance, and sometimes just laughing at the fact that no amount of bins will ever make this house look like a Pinterest board.
✨ Quick Clean Tip:Instead of buying more storage, try rotating and purging. Pick one bin or shelf each week and decide: Does this really need to be here? Can it be donated, recycled, or tossed? Even small, consistent efforts can prevent your “organized chaos” from turning into full-blown disaster. Good luck, I'm terrible at this.
